The Effectiveness of Solution-Focused Group Therapy on Reducing the Aggression of the Injurious Mothers

Abstract

Purpose: Determine the effectiveness of a solution-focused group therapy on reducing the aggression of the injurious mothers.
Method: The experimental design was a pre-test, post-test, and a follow-up test with the experimental and control groups. The samples consisted of 30 aggressive injurious mothers whose sons were educated in the first-grade schools of Ahvaz in the academic year of 2014-2015. They were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups using multi-stage sampling. The experimental group received the intervention treatment of solutions-focused group therapy for seven sessions of 90 minutes which were held one session per week. Buss-Perry aggression questionnaire was used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analysis of covariance.
Findings: The results of this study showed that solution-focused group therapy treatment reduced aggression and its components among the mothers of the experimental group compared to the control group, while its effect (except the verbal aggression component) continued to the follow-up.
