Identifying the Factors Affecting the Urban Livability with Structural-Interpretative Modeling Approach (Case Study: Ilam City

Abstract

The rapid growth of cities has brought about fundamental changes in the lives of residents. The problems in the cities show the lack of sustainability indicators in them. Therefore, the livability indexes are very important to study them. The main purpose of this paper is to identify and classify the factors affecting the livability of Ilam City using interpretive structural modeling technique. The present study is a descriptive survey in terms of applied purpose and the data collection tool is a questionnaire. By reviewing the literature and content analysis and Delphi technique, 16 indicators affecting the livability of Ilam City were identified, and then the internal relationships between them were examined using the ISM method. Then, the type of variables was determined according to the impact on other variables. The results showed that the city of Ilam is classified into six levels based on the factors affecting the livability and the five factors such as fair distribution of infrastructure facilities and services, adequate housing, having a suitable job and income, the amount of goods and services, proper quality of roads and streets with respectively are considered to be the most influential variables of livability in Ilam City. As a result, each plan or action to start and improve the livability of Ilam City must pay attention to the key and basic role of these factors. Accordingly, the first general dimensions affecting the livability of Ilam City include economic dimensions and in the later stages, environmental dimensions and social dimensions. Furthermore, none of the enablers were in the autonomous group according to MICMAC analysis, which would show the importance of all enablers in the livability of Ilam City.
